Reading your water meter to find leaks
Follow the four easy steps and learn how to read your water meter to prevent leaks.
- Step 1: Turn off all water-using fixtures inside and outside your home, including water softeners and filtration devices.
- Step 2: After locating your water meter in your basement or crawlspace, identify the odometer and low flow indicator.
- Step 3: If the low flow indicator appears to move, this indicates the presence of a leak.
- Step 4: Check common leaky fixtures (toilets, humidifiers, water softeners, faucets, etc.). Have the appliance repaired and considered replacing with WaterSense fixtures.
