Derry Road Meadowvale noise wall replacement

Derry Road from Atwood Lane to Meadowvale Conservation Area

Project updates

  • November 2022: Finalizing design and construction anticipated to start Spring 2023
  • June 2022: Finalizing design and construction anticipated to start summer 2022

Background

The Region of Peel is in the design stage of Private Noise Wall Conversion Program for your area along Derry Road between Atwood Lane and Meadowvale Conservation Area.

Under the Program, there is no cost to you for this noise wall replacement and its future maintenance, as after conversion, these noise walls will become the Region’s responsibility.

Wooden (cedar) or composite concrete noise walls

The existing noise walls material is wood and can be replaced with either concrete panels or cedar wood. For either material, noise reduction properties and wall height will remain similar to the existing wall. The main difference is the impact on the number of trees required to be cut down:

Precast concrete sound wall – Dixie Road (from Clark Boulevard to Birchbank Road), Brampton

Precast concrete sound wall – Finch Avenue West (from Darcel Avenue to Highway 427), Mississauga

Wood noise wall – Erin Mills (South of Dundas Street West), Mississauga

Wood noise wall – Dundas Street West, at Erin Mills, Mississauga

See the material comparison chart for more information.

We need your input

Public consultation is important to the success of this project. We invite you to engage with us, discuss your concerns, and provide your feedback on the alternatives (concrete vs. wood) of the replacement noise walls material.

Please provide your feedback by Monday, April 26, 2021 by email or by phone at the contacts listed below. Due to the current COVID-19 Provincial restrictions, a public consultation session cannot be held. The project team will review and consider the feedback received in selecting the noise wall replacement material. The Region will support the noise wall material option that is chosen by the majority of respondents (50%+).

Feedback Results

The following is the summary of the results received from the participants that provided feedback for the Noise Walls material preference at this location:

Derry Road
(Atwood Lane to Meadowvale Conservation Area)

WOOD 54%
CONCRETE 46%

The response rate was 59%.

Based on the feedback results, the majority of the participants prefer Wood Noise Walls.
