Sanitary sewer retirement

Lornewood Creek. Project 18-2300 C2

Peel Region has been working in your neighbourhood to replace the aging sanitary sewer just north of Fair Birch Drive, along Lornewood Creek. This work is required to maintain and improve existing wastewater services. As part of this work, we will be safely retiring the existing sewer along Lornewood Creek.

To retire the sewer, we will need to access the area through the existing easement. The easement is where Peel Region has obtained legal permission to enter private land for the purpose of maintaining Regional infrastructure. The attached map shows the location of the easement and this upcoming work.

Construction schedule

Construction is planned to begin shortly and be completed Spring 2024. These timelines are estimates, as weather and other unexpected events may impact our timelines. All work is under warranty for two years from the completion date.

Contractor and working hours

The work will be completed by Trisan Construction and supported by AECOM Canada Ltd., both under contract to Peel Region. This contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your neighbourhood/area to be under construction for a longer period of time.

Traffic and parking

We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane during construction. If we must reroute traffic, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced during construction when we are actively working on your street.

Areas impacted by construction

Retiring the sanitary sewer will involve marking the access route through the work area, installing temporary environmental controls such as fencing, inspecting and grouting the sewer, and maintenance hole retirement. Maintenance hole retirement may require digging small holes within the easement. Small equipment and hand tools will be used to minimize construction impact.

Tree protection and trimming

A certified arborist will oversee construction in environmentally sensitive areas. If tree branches located within Peel’s easement interfere with construction, the trees will be pruned beforehand, to the to the nearest suitable trunk or branch. We will contact you before any pruning of private trees occurs.

Repairing areas impacted by construction

Once the sewer has been retired and all associated work is completed, the contractor will restore the access route and any other disturbed areas within Peel’s easement to existing conditions or better. All disturbed areas will be seeded with a CVC Lowland seed mix.

Vibrations

You could feel slight vibrations from the construction work.

Safety during construction

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
