Beware of Door-to-Door Water Treatment Sales Agents

Residents supplied with municipal water are advised not to open their door to anyone asking to test their tap water, collect tap water samples or install water equipment unless that person is an employee or an agent of the Region of Peel.

The Region of Peel does not employ or authorize other companies to test municipal tap water or to collect municipal tap water samples on the Region's behalf. Peel Public Works staff carry photo ID cards and drive regional vehicles.

Peel Water Operators are certified to conduct drinking water tests to confirm water safety- and to collect drinking water samples, which are analyzed by an accredited and licensed laboratory. The Region would contact a resident in advance in the event that any in-home testing would be required.

The Region of Peel is responsible for the treatment and distribution of the municipal water supply. Peel's water quality meets the Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards (Ontario Regulation 169/03) and is safe without the need for additional treatment equipment.

As of March 1, 2018, door to door sales of water heaters and treatment devices will be prohibited by the Government of Ontario. To ensure that you are informed about the water quality in Peel and less likely to become a target of a company trying to sell you costly and inappropriate water treatment equipment, or if you have questions or concerns, please contact our Water Quality Team at 905-791-7800, ext. 4685 or via e-mail.
