Environmental Education Tours
Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities

Do your students know where their drinking water comes from and how it is treated to ensure there is always a safe, reliable supply, at the turn of a tap? Do they know where the water goes after they flush the toilet, take a shower or brush their teeth?

The Region of Peel offers free tours of our water and wastewater treatment facilities to grade eight students and above.

When you book a tour your students will learn:

  • the stages of the water treatment process
  • the stages of the wastewater treatment process
  • how water is transported from Lake Ontario to their tap
  • how wastewater is treated and returned to Lake Ontario

Who can book a Tour and when?

Tours are available to grades eight students and above, including high school and college/university.

School tours are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the school year.

Where are the treatment facilities located? ?

They are located in south Mississauga

What is the maximum number of people who can come?

We accept up to 30 students for each tour in order to accommodate class sizes and busing capacity.

How long is the Tour?

The tour is 3.5 hours which includes a presentation, discussion, walking tour of water treatment facility and bus tour of the wastewater facility.
