Peel Art Gallery, Museum + Archives is your Family Staycation Destination this August
Brampton, ON (July 31, 2019) – August at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is filled with fantastic family fun! Experience various exhibitions and opportunities for little hands, instructor-led creative activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as the self-guided weekend family fun activity. Don’t forget to drop-in for exciting events like the Peel Aboriginal Drumming Circle and the Sunday FUNday as well. Check out the “Plan your Visit” stations located in the lobbies and pick-up a family fun guide, created to help navigate our fun activities.
Plan Your Visit
- Affordable family fun is right here in Peel Region! Family admission to PAMA is $12 for 2 adults and up to 5 kids. Better yet, did you know that if you have a library card you can also sign out a FREE family pass at any of your local Region of Peel libraries?
- Pick-up a family fun guide with activities to enhance your visit.
- Help yourself to the new PAMA comic! Created to show how history can come to life through art and stories. Inspired by records from PAMA’s Archives collection and written and illustrated by local artists.
- Seek and Find your way through PAMA! Another fun way to explore our historic spaces and be entered into a weekly PAMA Summer Fun draw.
August Staycation Activities: Sensory Exploration
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Kick-off Aug. 6: Come meet Creature Quest and their scaly, furry and feathered friends (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.).
- Aug. 6 – Explore your sense of touch by creating your own animal sculpture.
- Aug. 8 – Use your sense of sight to explore the exhibit Selections from the Vault and find unique landscapes then make your own picturesque artwork.
- Aug. 13 – Test your knowledge and instincts to follow the map and see what you can find. Maybe it leads somewhere new and exciting. Join us and create your own treasure map!
- Aug. 15 – A farm is a whole sensory experience with different sounds, smells and sights! Visit the Face of the Farmer exhibition and create your own farm inspired artwork.
- Aug. 20 – Use your super sight to find something in the art gallery that is black and white with words and pictures. After exploring the For a Social Cause: Graphic Novels exhibition, be inspired and create your own comic art.
- Aug. 22 – Bumps, grooves and edges are only some of the things you’ll feel with collagraph printmaking. Touch and feel all the different textures that make different patterns and use printmaking techniques to create your own.
- Aug. 27 – Different colours can be seen, smelt and tasted. Explore your senses and all the crazy colours in Manning Square before creating your own rainbow inspired masterpiece.
- Aug. 29 – Banging, clanging and ringing are only some of the sounds that musical instruments can make. Identify different instruments just by hearing them and make a musical instrument of your own.
These drop-ins are included in general admission. Members are free.
Weekend Family Fun Activity
Saturdays and Sundays, 1 – 4:30 p.m.
Guide your family through monthly, self-guided art projects that inspire creativity. The August family fun activity is all about comic book creations. These drop-in activities are included in the cost of general admission. Members are free.
The Indigenous Network Drumming Circle
Aug. 15, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
PAMA and The Indigenous Network invite you to participate in an evening of shared traditions and songs. This is a free program which does not include general admission.
Sunday FUNday: Comic Book Art
Sunday, Aug. 18, 1 – 4 p.m.
Engage with art through special activities for the whole family inspired by the For a Social Cause exhibition on now in the art gallery. These drop-ins are included in general admission. Members are free.
