A long-term capital infrastructure plan to guide how Peel Region will create more affordable housing in Peel.
If the Housing Master Plan is fully funded and implemented, it will add more than 5,650 new affordable rental units including 226 supportive and 60 emergency shelter beds to the housing stock in Peel by 2034. A total of 31 projects will built on Region of Peel land and Peel Housing Corporation sites.
In 2019, Regional Council allocated $1 billion of funding in principle to support development of an initial 2,240 units to be built by 2028.
The Housing Master Plan is a key action of the Peel Housing and Homelessness Plan. It supports the strategy to build more affordable housing.

In August 2020, the Government of Canada, through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), announced $276.4 million to new affordable housing in Peel. These funds closely match the Region of Peel’s 2019 commitment of $335 million, which, along with additional funding from the Province of Ontario, will significantly impact Peel’s ability to create new affordable housing.
The Housing Master Plan can only be completed if Peel Region and the 3 local municipalities continue to receive federal and provincial funding to meet the community’s affordable housing needs.
